5/18/2012: Timmy Chandler Switching To Germany?

5/18/2012: Timmy Chandler Turns Down Invite. Switching To Germany?
By Ryan Kozlowski

In recent years, there has been a surge in German players with American fathers representing the United States.

First it was Jermaine Jones, who plays for German powerhouse Schalke 04.

Jones, a 30 year old veteran with years of experience in the Bundesliga, surprisingly never got a crack with the German national team. As a result, Jones eventually decided he could use his father's American nationality to represent the United States.

Jones intent to play for the United States started a flood, that included Timothy Chandler (FC Nurnberg) a few months later, followed by more gems in Danny Williams (Hoffenheim) and Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim).

Yesterday, Jurgen tried to cap tie all his Germans.

As Jurgen Klinsmann issued 16 invites for the upcoming games against Brazil and Scotland, along with World Cup qualifying to follow in the Summer. Klinsmann will be able to add 13 more players to the roster by Sunday, May 20th.

Jones, Chandler, Williams, and Johnson were all on the initial 16 player roster list.

German-American players Danny Williams and Fabian Johnson both accepted which will cap tie them to the United States, but Timothy Chandler (8 friendly appearances for the U.S.) declined once again citing a long Bundesliga season with Nurnberg and needing a "break."

However, Chandler's decision is a bit odd considering all other Bundesliga and Premiership players, with long seasons, accepted.

Further, this is the second time that Timothy Chandler has declined an official tournament that would cap tie him; as last Summer Chandler declined the Gold Cup.

This second, "no thanks," for World Cup qualifying has U.S. Soccer fans wondering was ist los with Chandler?

Let's break it down with some simple facts on Chandler and the importance of World Cup qualifying:
1.) Chandler isn't a outside back of the quality of a Danny Alves or Ashley Cole; or when he's playing on the wing of the quality of a winger like Gareth Bale. So, what's with all of the commotion? He's a good option but that's it an option.

His starting role hasn't even been determined or that Chandler is the best we got at left back.

He may be Jurgen's favorite at the moment.

But, I don't think anyone's seen enough in 8 games to determine that the left back position is Chandler's for years to come.

2.) Chandler is probably skittish on committing to the U.S. because a part of him hopes to play for Germany, where he has lived all his life, in the future.

The problem for Chandler is, if he would of accepted, he would likely start in the World Cup for the United States.

In comparison, Germany has so much talent that I can't see anyone on their bench even that Chandler could replace.

Chandler just doesn't figure into the top 30 German players out there.

3.) Chandler shouldn't get another call up to the United States ever.

Would he decline World Cup qualifying for Germany or England (if he was English?) Nope.

So, why give someone another chance who apparently doesn't care too much about staying in the starting eleven of the national team side? If you sit at home and take a "break," someone else can take your position, but apparently Chandler doesn't mind.

And even worse he doesn't seem to care about World Cup qualifying? Even playing Brazil, at the end of the month, can't interest Chandler enough.

Which means we need to forget about him, because who wants someone like that on the team.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge (affectionately named "Aldo") urged today for Pool' manager Kenny Daiglish and company to sign Clint Dempsey this Summer.

"In terms of players coming in we certainly need another striker and Clint Dempsey for the price would be a good signing."

Aldo should know, the attacking Aldridge netted 63 goals in just 104 games for Liverpool (below); and Suarez and Dempsey would definitely be an exciting combination up top for the Reds, for many years to come.

In a Poll on Liverpool-Kop.Com, nearly 65 percent of fans agreed that Dempsey for 10 million pounds would be a good signing.

However, Liverpool are likely to have competition from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham for Dempsey's services this Summer.

If one were to step in Der Jurgen's shoes..

Jurgen would probably believe that Dempsey would best fit in at possibly Liverpool or Tottenham, and get the most playing time at either.

Then Arsenal..

Jurgen would possibly believe Arsenal's attacking style under Arsene Wenger fits Dempsey the best, but there's more positional competition at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Dempsey could like that challenge and the sexiness of playing for an Arsenal.

Coming in last is Chelsea.

I would be surprised if Dempsey were to end up at Chelsea, just don't see him at the Bridge with Samsung on his chest, combining with Torres.

Whatever deal does conspire, Dempsey is in the best position of any American player in transfer history right now.

DER JURGEN.COM

The United States kick off action in their preliminary CONCACAF group (Group A) for World Cup qualification, consisting of Antigua and Barbuda, Guatemala, and Jamaica on June 8th.

The U.S. is unsurprisingly a favorite to move on as group winners, with Guatemala or Jamaica likely to take up the runner-up spot from Group A.

Group B consists of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guyana, and Mexico; while Group C is comprised of Canada, Cuba, Honduras and Panama.

Six teams, a group winner and a runner-up, will move on from each group.

The six that are most likely and rather expected to move on are boldened.

Nevertheless, Jamaica, Canada, or El Salvador could surprise.

A big surprise is Trinidad and Tobago is already out of the running.

U.S.A's Summer Qualifying Schedule:
Antigua and Barbuda @ United States - June 8th
United States @ Guatemala - June 12th
United States @ Jamaica - September 7th
Jamaica @ United States - September 11th
United States @ Antigua and Barbuda - October 12th
Guatemala @ United States - October 16th

The United States, under Klinsmann, should be able to receive a better picture of their starting eleven after so many games, in such a short period of time.

The U.S. will attempt to set their lineup for June 8th with high caliber friendlies against Scotland on May 26th in Jacksonville (On NBC Sports Network) and against Brazil on May 30th in Washington, D.C. at Fed Ex Field (On ESPN2).

5/15/2012: Gatt Makes Noise At Molde FK

5/15/2012: Gatt Makes Noise At Molde FK

Josh Gatt played the full 90 minutes again for Molde FK on Saturday, netting a goal and an assist in a 5-nil rout of Stabaek.

The goal was Gatt's fourth on the year for Molde, and third assist.

Gatt was dynamic all day and helped spark a route, playing a part in two of three goals in the first 10 minutes for Molde FK against Diskerud's old club Stabaek.

Stabaek could have used Diskerud on Saturday, who's on loan at Gent; Stabaek did however have Americans Ricardo Clark (midfield) and Sean Cunningham (center back) involved in the slaughter at Gatt and companies hands.

Neither were enough to contain Gatt.

Gatt's skill this year:

Has led to 22 appearances, compared to 5 the previous year.

The 21 year old youngster only appears to have good things on the horizon.

5/15/2012: Tim Ream, Stuart Holden Relegated

Relegation heartbreak: Ream's late header attempt almost kept Bolton up, the former Red Bull reacts (above).

By Ryan Kozlowski

Tim Ream broke down how hard it is to be on the brink of relegation, a day or two before Bolton was eventually relegated after a 2-2 tie against Stoke City:

“I don’t know if anybody who follows American sports like basketball, baseball or American football would even understand what (relegation) is like,” Ream said. “You watch the [Blackburn] game and as the game progresses and Wigan scores, you see Blackburn and how they react.

“The pit that I had in my stomach watching them be relegated was something I’ve never experienced,” Ream said. “You don’t get that watching a playoff game in MLS. I can’t compare it to anything. It’s a horrible feeling. Sitting there watching the game and you think about your own team and the games that you’ve had in the past two or three weeks that were ties but could have been better results."

Ream's misery over ties was compounded on Sunday, when a win on the last day of the season would of took Bolton and Ream over QPR and into safety; but the Wanderers could not hold on to there 2-1 advantage late at Stoke.

“It was heartbreaking to watch (Ream said on Blackburn's relegation prior to Ream's own Bolton) and I wasn’t even playing in the game.”

Ream's heartbreak was multiplied near the end of 90 minutes (in his final game Sunday) as a header by the American almost put Bolton back up.

However, Stoke's Danish keeper Sorensen was up to the task. Keeping Ream from becoming a new legend at the Reebok.

As a result, Ream and his American teammate Stuart Holden will not be in one of the best league's in the world next season.

This has to disappoint American manager, Jurgen Klinsmann, as well; as Der Jurgen would definitely prefer two possibly, crucial players in his future setup to be getting Premiership minutes.

Compared to Championship minutes...

Major questions any tactician would ponder?

Do Ream and Holden responding positively next season in the Championship? Do both become key players on the squad, with possibly current key players (like Kevin Davies) attempting to transfer back to the Premiership level?

5/15/2012- Mix Diskerud At Gent, Wants To Stay There

5/15/2012- In The Mix: Mix Diskerud At Gent, Wants To Stay There
By Ryan Kozlowski
DER JURGEN.COM

Mix Diskerud has stated that he has every intention of staying with AA Gent:

"I've fallen in love with this club, I told my agent and my father that I desperately want to stay here. I learned the city, now also know and am convinced that I myself am in ideal professional environment and that in these conditions I can develop. I learned a lot from this season, although I often started on the bench.

In Stabaek I played the past two seasons almost 60 games in a row, so that was a bit of adjusting. But I can imagine no better environment to play football again next season."

But, has the American U-23 star done enough to make AA Gent want to keep him?

Mix has had only 6 appearances for Gent since being loaned to the club, a step up from Stabaek, in January of 2012.

In comparison, Mix had over 60 appearances in the past two years for Stabaek, appearances that led to caps with the United States senior side; before Diskerud was eventually designated to the U-23 level.

Diskerud believes that he can get more involved for Gent next season and help push them towards European competition.

But, the Norwegian-American has a bit of work left to do as he has failed to even dress for Gent's last two games against Club Brugge and Kortrijk.

Mix's last positive involvement for U-23's, helping an Adu goal to net against Mexico U-23's:
